Cheers David. Yep 40 grade Herbin. In a cold workshop it's so much easier than fighting with a rock hard medium grade!

Cheers, and yes - metal inside the whole thing. Aluminium mostly [3mm in wings], but steel in the tail

Great sculpt.

did you work over an armature for the feathers?

:iconartyandy:
artyandy Featured By Owner Aug 27, 2015
The whole thing is over an armature, as there's about  12kg or so of plastiline clay there. I do have a picture of it [it doesn't look like I can attach pictures in a reply here].

The armature is a mix of solid aluminium [20mm bar through the body, in to which 4mm aluminium rod goes in the limbs and head, 6mm runs through the tail and 3mm plate inside the wings bent to shape prior].

The torso bar is bolted into a 10mm steel rod, which then goes into a sturdy "keylock" mount on the far side - which can be removed for moulding [as can he wings and tail].
